Caffeine!!! !! ! !!

Hello! This is a brief analysis of why I got the sweats for about an hour this afternoon.

Caffeine: A chemical compound known to increase wakefulness by blocking adenosine receptor action in neurons. Chemically, the compound can be described by the name 1,3,7-trimethylxanthine due to its composure of a xanthine molecule that has three methyl groups added in specific places around the ring structure. These methyl groups give caffeine a high affinity for coupling to adenosine receptors in such a way that blocks adenosine from binding it, preventing the drowsiness-inducing actions that typically result from the complex. This induces temporary alertness until adenosine concentrations reach high enough levels to bind the receptor more effectively, classifying it as a stimulant. Not only does it stimulate the central nervous system, but in some individuals, it can affect the sweat glands as well.

This is most likely why I’m sweating after that Starbucks-featured Dark Roast of the Day I just finished. Possible other causes may be aspects of the lunch I had earlier (a crock pot chuck roast with potatoes, onions, carrots, and cauliflower cooked in red wine. I also threw some gold fish crackers into the broth after everything else that was substantial had been eaten), or heat retention from my boots (testing out hiking boots for a trip to Nepal).

To bring this back into the IT realm:  Caffeine is also a nifty app!  http://www.zhornsoftware.co.uk/caffeine/
