I Have No Reception

I’m going to put up an out of office today.  I rarely do this, even when I’m out, which likely drives the other Birds bonkers.  But today, while I’m out pontoon-ing on a Wisconsin lake, I’m going to push the DND button and hope for the best.

We’re all available all the time.  Phones and tablets and laptops and car radios are in sync with corporate email, a Bluetooth headset and Skype Business messages.  Technology advances, faster than the motor on that pontoon.

I could play hookie, leave my phone online and respond with a reduced attention span (and I will likely do this).  But I don’t get reception on the lake.  There’s no wifi at the local watering hole.  I don’t have a fish to catch, but my slalom ski talents should be put to the test.  My focus on the water should be as studied as it is when I’m connected to a server.  We should all find more time on the lake, disconnected.

So, cheers to Midwestern summers.  To dropping offline.  To a playlist of country music and a koozie keeping Leines cold.

I don’t have reception out here.  I’m out of office.  See you on Monday.
