Keyboard Shortcuts

I LOVE Keyboard Shortcuts!

I’m not exactly nerd-alert when it comes to keyboard commands, but I tend to use them more often than my mouse.  When you have the keystrokes memorized, it’s simply faster to type than mouse around.  Here are a few of my absolutely favorites – I can’t live without them.

ALT + TAB:  switches your window to the most recently used window.  If you hold the Alt Key, and click the Tab button you can select between any open window.

The Windows Key controls loads of shortcuts, here are my most useful:

image004 + M :  minimizes all open Windows (I use this when I need to see my desktop)

image004 + L :  locks your computer (I use this anytime I leave for a snack break)

image004  + P :  allows you to change your monitor display – to mirror, extend or project

image004  + Arrow Key

  • image011 +  RIGHT ARROW:  moves your active Window to the right side of your screen
  • image011 +  LEFT ARROW:  moves your active Window to the left side of your screen
  • image011 +  UP ARROW:  maximizes your current Window
  • image011 +  DOWN ARROW:  minimizes your current Window

I use Outlook shortcuts most often, likely because most of my working time is spent in Outlook.  Here are my favorites, and maybe the obvious ones.  You can use any of these commands when you’re in a message:

CTRL + R :                                 Reply

CTRL + SHIFT + R :                Reply-All

CTRL + D :                                 Delete

CTRL + F :                                  Forward

ALT + S :                                    Send

Lastly, similar to shortcuts, I rely on searching.  The Windows Logo Key image004 by itself brings up the Start Menu.  From there, you can type to search for anything on your computer – document titles as well as applications like Outlook or Word.  Type for whatever you need, then use the Arrow Key to highlight your selection, and Enter to open!
