Total No Recall

A new feature is coming to a PC near you!

Microsoft's Recall feature for Windows 11, designed to enhance user productivity by periodically capturing screenshots to help users retrieve previously displayed information, has raised significant privacy concerns. Reports indicate that Recall inadvertently captures sensitive data, including credit card and social security numbers, potentially exposing users to security risks. For more details on the information captured or how they were able to test for it, you can read here.

In response to the backlash, Microsoft has made Recall an opt-in feature, allowing users to control its activation. Additionally, users can disable the feature, pause it temporarily, filter specific apps and websites, and delete stored snapshots at any time. Microsoft emphasizes that all data processed by Recall remains local to the device, with no internet or cloud connections involved, aiming to address privacy and security concerns. However, this info may be compromised if your local device is lost, stolen, or breached. You can follow the instructions in this article to disable or restrict Recall.
