Even More About Coffee

1

It’s apparent that us Birds just love talking about coffee. I won’t talk about how you need one more cup or its effects, but I do want to talk about different ways you can get coffee into your mouth.

My household is constantly trying to find better, more convenient ways to do things, especially when it comes down to how each person uses whatever thing. With coffee routines, we’ve used a plethora of different brewing methods. Here we go:

Keurig

My S.O. (significant other) used this mostly at his house. Pros: easy to use; fast. Cons: pods are expensive; it tastes… not great; and let’s face it, it’s just plain gross – have you ever tried cleaning one of those things?

French Press + Coffee Bean Grinder

I used this method for years.  Ya gotta have the grinder, too – it’s not the same with packaged ground coffee. Pros: tastes yummy and fresh; it’s fancy and fun to press (that rhymed!). Cons: sort of messy and hard to clean, especially if you don’t have a garbage disposal or are composting; you need a grinder, so that’s a second piece of equipment.
Rating: Thumbs up for the most part

Metal Filter (feat. Coffee Bean Grinder)

We downgraded from a larger vessel to a one-cup. It made sense because, well, there’s two of us, and we drink about a cup each, give or take. It’s a 3-piece-set. Pros: Doesn’t use as many grounds as the French press; it’s inexpensive and easy to use. Cons: Takes a bit of time for the coffee to drip; a little less messy to clean than the French press, but not ideal for composting.

Ceramic Pourover w/ Paper Filters (feat. Coffee Bean Grinder)

Again, it’s a one-cup filter. It’s a conical filter, similar to a Chemex. We bought paper filters that are compostable and made of recycled paper. Pros: easy to use, one piece to clean; filters are inexpensive; easy clean up, especially for composting. Cons: slow drip.
Rating: 1000 points!  Highly recommended!

We still have a stove top espresso maker that we haven’t used because we’re scared of it (maybe for the next blog post?)

Enjoy your next cup. Cheers!
