Apps for Camping + Road Trips

Since the pandemic started, I’ve tried to find ways to break from the monotony of being home (safely, and in accordance to our comfort level). Right now, I’m personally not content flying to any destination. What I’ve come up with: road trips and camping.

My husband and I took a road trip from Portland to Chicago for a few weeks. We also have a camping trip scheduled for this summer. I found these apps; some I’ve explored, while others are on my shortlist:

Outlook Inbox Rules

Now I know what you’re thinking, and no, I’m not referring to the Outlook Inbox as something that’s “cool” or that it “owns” or that it is “rad.” This is a dignified blog post that would never use colloquial teenager slang. Something so gauche will never touch this page. No, today, we’re talking the method through which you can dictate how Outlook or the Outlook Web App automatically handles certain emails. It is structured. It is elegant. It is… bourgeois decadence.

One important thing to note first is that when creating rules in the Outlook application, some rules will ONLY be run when the application itself is open. These rules are specifically marked as ‘client-only’, so keep an eye out for that. Any rules not marked that way will always run, regardless of Outlook.

I learned something dumb the other day, and it’s about Windows. The only place I can think to share this information is here, with you.

It’s not news that I’m a big fan of keyboard shortcuts. This is especially true while working in Outlook, where I spend much of my day, but any useful key combination that increases efficiency becomes part of my muscle memory.

Between a Rock Salt (Lamp) and a Hard Place

Even though it’s summer now, some of us are still spending a lot of time inside. When feeling stressed or out of sorts, the surroundings in our homes have a great influence on us. Something I have found to be helpful is the addition of several Himalayan rock salt lamps to my abode.

These light sources consist of salt mined from the Middle East, heated and illuminated by an incandescent light source that ideally produces a significant amount of heat. The result is a very warm, pinkish light. I’m no interior decorator, but compared to normal incandescent, fluorescent, or LED lighting, it is comforting. It’s kind of like having a campfire in your home but without the fire hazard.

So, what’s new?

Given the current state of the world, my guess is that you haven’t been checking out tech trends. Well, you’re in luck. Around this time of the year, all the heavy hitters in the tech world seem to come out with a new gadget or update that gets people excited. It usually starts with a new iPhone release, and then the rest of the industry attempts to counter with their latest product for the masses, and people go crazy (remember the lines for the new iPhone or Playstation?)! I have good news: this year certainly won’t be a stinker when it comes to electronics:
