Apps for Camping + Road Trips

Since the pandemic started, I’ve tried to find ways to break from the monotony of being home (safely, and in accordance to our comfort level). Right now, I’m personally not content flying to any destination. What I’ve come up with: road trips and camping.

My husband and I took a road trip from Portland to Chicago for a few weeks. We also have a camping trip scheduled for this summer. I found these apps; some I’ve explored, while others are on my shortlist:

  1. HipCamp: Camping + Glamping: HipCamp has an Airbnb sort of vibe, except for private campgrounds or cabins. You can rent a cool tiny house, a retro RV, or go glamping (glamorous camping).
  2. Recreation.gov: I’ve actually used this website quite a bit to reserve campgrounds. You can also search for day-use areas, historic landmarks, and ranger-led activities.
  3. Roadtrippers – Trip Planner: This is a pretty cool app (though you need to upgrade to get more features). Plug in your beginning and end destinations, and then plan your route, including any stops along the way.

Need more? Here are some more similar apps, depending on your needs:

AllTrails: Hike, Bike + Run
Campendium – RV + Tent Camping
iOverlander
The Dyrt: Tent + RV Camping
