Managing Your Passwords

5-most-used-passwords

I had my mind sort of blown last week.  I was visiting my client’s home, doing some side IT work, when it came time to ask her the burning question every IT person hopes is known: what’s your password?  My client is a sweet, mostly computer-literate woman in her 60s.  She pulled out an address book (old skool – meaning, a physical book with pages) that was solely dedicated to password management.   She went to ‘S’ to reference her SBCglobal account (haha) and there it was.  No-nonsense and super easy (and that is why I love working for her)!

Birds – Best of Applicants

Capture

Dearest Blog-Readers and Bird-Fans:

As you may already know, Birds on a Cable has recently added new starlings to our flock. And, truth be told, it’s been a difficult journey to find these shining, capable personalities. Technical knowhow aside, we aim to employ passionate, organized and well-balanced Birds.
Sifted from hundreds of resumes, below are some of the close-but-not-quite candidates:

FACT or FICTION? Mercury in Retrograde

FACT or FICTION: Mercury retrograde

Being in the IT support world, our customers just want their technology to work.  No matter how new, fast, or fancy their devices are, sometimes they just don’t do what they are supposed to.  Most of the time you can chalk this up to a piece of software (Microsoft), your previous IT company (not us), and even user error (rarely, of course).  But why not blame something out of this world: MERCURY!

F.lux – Take Back the Night

Hail and well met!

It’s well-established that modern-day computer and TV screens cause problems with the body’s sleep systems due to their constant and intense output of blue light. Enter F.lux, an application made to specifically filter out blue light from your monitor screen based on the time of day. It works with zero configuration beyond the intial install and has the potential to help with both light-induced sleep issues and eye strain. It’s no catch-all panacea, but can go a long way towards getting those circadian rhythms in order. Plus it’s free, so JUST…DO IT. MAKE…YOUR DREAMS…COME TRUE!

Apps I Can’t Live Without

Here’s a quick guide to some of my personal favorite apps in the world wide web. Life can be pretty rough sometimes, and these apps just help me get by. I’m going skip over the obvious social media ones and hopefully shed some light on the good, practical + simple ones (nothing crazy/trendy here, guys). I have an iPhone 5S, if anyone cares!

VSCO

I love VSCO because of the cool filters it offers (don’t forget to download the free filters under SHOP). Once you pick a filter, you can then edit the properties of the filter to suit your selfie needs. Save it to your phone and/or link it to your favorite social media outlets.

The Weather Channel

You’re probably going, “There’s already an iPhone Weather app, Kris.” Yes, I understand. But this one has a RADAR. RADAR.
