FACT or FICTION? Mercury in Retrograde

FACT or FICTION: Mercury retrograde

Being in the IT support world, our customers just want their technology to work.  No matter how new, fast, or fancy their devices are, sometimes they just don’t do what they are supposed to.  Most of the time you can chalk this up to a piece of software (Microsoft), your previous IT company (not us), and even user error (rarely, of course).  But why not blame something out of this world: MERCURY!

Several times a year during its Orbit of the Sun (sweet band name idea), Mercury slows down when passing Earth.  This creates an optical illusion that is similar to when you are the EL (ugh), and two trains are side by side, and then one passes the other.  It appears as if the slow train is going backwards while still moving forward.   This same effect occurs with Earth and Mercury (and all other planets) called Mercury retrograde. It is rumored to cause some wacky effects.

Mercury retrograde allegedly can crash electronic devices including computers, so make sure you Save (CTRL + S) what you are working on and backup your data.  It’s also known to influence communication, travel, contracts, and automobiles so be on the lookout and don’t sign your life away.

Whether this theory is fact or fiction, at least Mercury retrograde can give you an outlet to blame your life or device issues on.

Here are the remaining Mercury retrograde dates this year:
•    April 28 to May 22
•    August 30 to September 22
•    December 19 to 31
