How to Use Your iPhone LIKE A BOSS, Part II

After you’ve done so much adulting that you accomplished all steps in Part I …

1. First things first – let’s start off with the silliest (but also the coolest) default app on the iPhone: the LEVEL!  If you decide to hang a shelf or picture frame, or you’re really bored and want to make sure everything in your house is level, or you’re on a plane and wonder how many degrees you are from the horizon, use this app (open Compass > then swipe left).  It comes in a variety of colors (okay, two options: black, and Christmas colors. Switch colors by tapping).  Don’t forget to orient your phone sideways, flat, or upright.

2. Turn off WiFi assist! (Settings > Cellular > Wifi Assist to OFF.)  To save yourself from a shocking phone bill, turn this off.  When it is ON and you have a weak WiFi signal, it switches your phone back to using your Cellular Data plan. And I’m sure you’d rather save on your phone bill to buy bottles of bubbly.

3. FREE UP SPACE.  This is my favorite trick of all time. There are many ways to free space, here are the usual methods: delete photos/videos; delete photos/videos from texts message conversations (Details > tap and hold on pic/attachment to reveal the Delete option); delete needless apps, etc.
You can also try this:  iTunes Store > Search > search for War + Peace (the old one with Audrey Hepburn) > Click Rent > Rent HD Movie.  Your phone will search for enough space, and then free up what it needs (it’s 8GB for the HD movie, so you’ll need less than 8GB free space for this to work).  A window will tell you it “Cannot Download” and give you the option to hit OK or go to Settings.  The longer you wait to hit either, the more space it will create. If you hit Settings, it will take you to the Storage screen which shows how much space you have left.  Rinse and repeat as much as you’d like.  I’ve personally freed up 3GB on my phone using this trick.

4.  Get to know your phone.  I mean, REALLY know your phone.  Get intimate with it.  Tap on things.  Hold and swipe things.  Shake things up.  Go into Settings and read things. Double (or even triple) tap the home button.  And if you’re scared, ask a Bird!
