Another Blog about Win11

Dear Diary,

Well, I finally did it. And like the Birds that have come before me (link and link), I want to tell you about it.

The good news: it’s not terrible! In fact, so far, it’s so similar to Win10 that the changes are nearly unnoticeable (to me). I think my favorite “feature” is something that existed in Win10 but is just easier to find. I could never put muscle memory to the hotkey for a new virtual desktop, so Win11 made it a button that sits on my taskbar. This is pretty great, even if the button takes up some real estate and even if it means I’m a little bit lazy.

The bad news: drivers for my Surface Laptop Dock didn’t immediately work with external video output, and it took me a good 3hrs to get it going. This tested my troubleshooting skills as well as my patience. I’ve also found a bit of bugginess that forces me to reboot once every 8-days instead of every 13-days, but honestly, I’m not sure why I can’t just close my tabs. It’s fine. They come back.

So I encourage you to take the plunge on a day you don’t have something major to compute (and maybe on a day you’re near a Bird for any random “oh no!” that crops up).

Ta-ta, Win10. It’s been a slice.
