Facebook Recovery

Has your Facebook account ever been hacked? This happens all the time and can be extremely frustrating. Unfortunately, sometimes it can’t be recovered, but if it can, here are some tips on how to recover it and prevent it from happening.

Try to recover your account using Facebook’s interactive account recovery tool at Facebook.com/hacked. If this doesn’t work, the hackers exploiting your account may eventually be stopped. They are likely to abuse your account and friends list in a way that breaches Facebook standards, prompting people to report the activity. This would lock the account at some point (excellent news). You might not be able to gain access again, but neither will anyone else. Perhaps a week or two later, Facebook may contact you in certain circumstances and say, “We discovered that your account had been compromised – we have resolved the issue.” You may be given the option to regain access to your account. Fingers crossed.

What’s more important are ways to prevent your account from being compromised. Use the two-factor authentication feature. This ensures that even someone who knows your password cannot log in because a second method of confirmation is needed, most often by text message to your smartphone.

Other online accounts are subject to the same security issues. Clicking on links or communicating with strangers who ask for information should always be done with caution. When in doubt or uncomfortable about anything, it’s advisable to seek a professional opinion. Birds on a Cable is always happy to help!
