Grammarly

If you’re the type of person who hated grammar in English class or you’re infamous for typos, Grammarly might be for you. I really liked grammar in school, and in 8th grade, I was the spelling bee champion for my region (I live by this flex). Of course, I thought I was better than this app. But now that I’m in grad school, I had to up my game because prior to 2022, I had not written a paper since 2003.

As I type, Grammarly is making suggestions as to what I should change in my sentences, which generally sounds better. More importantly, Grammarly is smart as hell. It knows when you’re using a particular academic writing style. It suggests synonyms that might flow better in your sentences (or if you’ve used a word too many times). It also lets you know when you’re using passive voice. Grammarly can tell you what kind of tone your writing has, e.g., formal, optimistic, confident, etc. It’s cute and neat.

Grammarly has a free version, which I have not used, as my school provides it for me. The more you pay the more features you get, just like anything else. Happy writing!
