The New iPhone 17.x iOS Update

We’ve been keeping up with new iPhones and software updates for decades now. Though it feels never-ending, each update becomes more and more innovative and customizable. Here are some features from the new iOS 17.x update:

Contact Poster
Make a cutie-little contact card with a fabulous selfie (or memoji or monogram) so that when you call someone, your cutie-little face will pop up. You can customize the font and font color and crop the photo to your liking. Cute.

Reading Voicemails
Most of us know that you can read a voicemail instead of listening to it. Now, you can read a voicemail as it is being recorded in real-time (on the lock screen), and you can choose to pick up the call right away or let it keep recording.

Leave Another Type of Voicemail – FaceTime Video
Ever FaceTime someone with something important to show them, and they’re not available? They’re missing out! Instead, leave a video recording on FaceTime by hitting Record Video.

A ScreenSaver of Sorts
This update feature threw me when I woke up in the middle of the night. I couldn’t sleep, so I tried scrolling on my phone. To my surprise, this screensaver (that I couldn’t initially get out of because of lack of consciousness) popped up. It showed me widgets like the time, a calendar, and old photos. While it was kind of nice, it was also sort of annoying. While it’s charging, lay it on its side and see if you think this feature is cool (or not). Do what you will with it!

And the Most Controversial of Them All…NameDrop
The idea behind it is to hold your phone near another iPhone user to quickly swap contact info. You can turn this off (Open the Settings > Tap on General > Navigate to the AirDrop tab > Toggle the Bring Devices Together option off). Is it dangerous? Some say yes, while others say that you have the option to share and select pieces of information with someone or turn it off.

Enjoy exploring the new features! It’s like having a new phone (happy holidays to YOU)!
