My Damn Mouse

My damn mouse is toast! Using a defective mouse is annoying, but sometimes it’s not irritating enough to replace it. I’ve been making excuses that the battery needs replacing, or the problem is my Surface, etc. The reality is that the mouse isn’t any good. With all of that said, I’m in the market for a new mouse, so here’s the process I’ll go through when deciding.

Wired or Wireless
Come on now! That’s not even a question anymore. Of course, wireless. The real question is, Bluetooth or USB adapter? I’ve always been a big fan of USB because I think they perform better. The only issue is that USB ports on laptops are becoming hard to come by as technology evolves. Thankfully I can buy a mouse with both USB and Bluetooth, and that’s the route I’ll be going.

Ergonomics
This is tough because I travel, and I won’t want a large mouse. I like a rounded mouse because my hands are somewhat large, and I don’t like when my palm drags on the desk. I’m not too fond of the trackball mice or the vertical mouse, either. The flat apple ones are not my favorite either.

Performance
Performance is an area that I’m a novice in, even as an IT pro (maybe because I’m not a gamer). There are different speeds and shortcuts you can adjust on specific mice. None of those features interest me very much. With that said, I’m most interested in connection, scroll wheel, and battery life. There is nothing worse than trying to use your mouse, and the battery is dead. The connection is essential as well. It cannot connect to another computer accidentally and start moving another cursor around like a ghost (this has happened to a couple of my users and is always a fun troubleshoot!) Scroll wheels are more crucial than ever because it seems like all more scroll bars are disappearing, which is very annoying in general.

I hope this helps and encourages you to ditch your damn mouse and replace it with a good one. If you want to know the verdict, I’ll be going with the Logitech M650 and I think it will be the perfect fit… pun intended.
