Fall is Upon Us: Soup’s On!

It’s time for pumpkin-spiced everything, autumnal wreaths, sweater weather, corn mazes, and apple cider donuts. For me and a lot of America, I like making soups and stews for the colder, rainy weather. For this, I’ve been getting into the habit of making bone broth every fall.

If you’re thinking, why not just make chicken stock? Well, sure – you can do that, too. But the benefits of bone broth (longer cooking time) outweigh any other stock or broth. It’s collagen-rich (for joint health) and the amino acids help with both digestion and sleep.

I have an Instant Pot which allows me to cook this bone broth recipe in the fraction of the time it takes on the stove. I also found some good tips from Bon Appetit. Every time I buy bone-in meat, I save the bones in the freezer for the upcoming season.

Not only can you use it in soups and stews (and whatever recipes call for stock), you can drink it on its own for these same health benefits (I sometimes like to drink it straight-up when I’m sick). Here’s one of my favorite fall soupy-stew recipes. Enjoy and happy cooking!
